The history of the alpine village of Villanders/Villandro reaches back to ancient roots. Numerous remains of rampart castles, archaeological excavations and findings from the Neolithic and Roman times provide proof of pre-historic settlements. From the early Middle Age up to recent times, silver, copper and lead rocks were mined in this area, which is still an interesting treasure trove for mineralogists.
In addition to inviting hospitality, Villanders is rich in art, culture and tradition.
Two slim Gothic towers reaching up to the sky make the village unmistakable. The two churches hold interesting pieces of art of various stylistic periods and beautiful buildings provide the old village alley with a picturesque touch. It is a special experience when the village band marches through the village, farmers and citizens dress up in their traditional costumes and various events fill the entire village with an enjoyable atmosphere.
